Quick Tip of the Week: Organize a Local Tweetup!

A ‘Tweetup’ is an offline meeting of people who have met and organized on Twitter.  This is a great way to find other Twitter users in your area, who share your common interests.  Here’s an HR related tweetup I found in the San Diego area on http://twtvite.com/:

http://tweetup.meetup.com/ is another good site, because it draws users from the already popular meetup.com.  These sites can be a great tool to take your networking strategies to the next level.  You could organize a Tweetup with local financial advisors to establish a referral relationship, or hold a tweetup with local parent publications for marketing purposes, for example.  The possibilities are endless!

Quick Tip of the Week – Use the Same Avatar Everywhere

An avatar is any image, photo, logo, etc., that you use to represent yourself and/or your company in the virtual world.

You should get in the practice of using the same avatar across all online services, so that you become instantly recognizable through that image.  Social media sites have done a fantastic job of this; everywhere you see their avatars, you know that Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn have a presence on that page, like they do here below.  As an attorney, the more your avatar pops up online, the more likely they are to remember you when they need estate planning.  It’s a great way to build recognition online!

Quick Tip of the Week – Twitter Lists

If you are already involved in Twitter then you have undoubtedly heard about the new Twitter list feature. I think this is the best thing that has happened to Twitter since Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk) started tweeting! ;-)

Twitter lists allow you to group fellow tweeters into groups to make following your favs much easier. The one beef I’ve had with Twitter is that it is really hard to follow people that you are interested in. I suppose one obvious answer to this is to only follow people that you actually want to hear from, but one of the great things about Twitter is getting to know new people. If you avoid anyone you don’t know you will never grow your network – and social media is all about growing your network.

Key points for Twitter lists:

1. Each account can have up to 20 lists, and;
2. Each list can include up to 500 users.

Creating a list is super-easy. At the time of this writing you will find a message at the top of your page after you log into Twitter with a link called, “Create a new list.” Simply click on that link and and give your list a name and start adding tweeters.

You can also take a short-cut and follow other people’s lists, so if you find a really good one created by someone else you can follow theirs.

Quick Tip of the Week – Hold A Contest

Fans are more likely to keep checking your Facebook page if you give them a motivation to do so.  twitter facebook contest winner

How about holding a contest?

One quick and easy idea is to put everyone who ‘fans’ your Facebook fan page during the month is entered into a raffle.  The prize could be an Amazon gift card or a great book?  Or how about a discount on estate planning?

Contests get attention.  Please love to win things.

Be sure to use all of the media outlets to announce your contest using all of the social media outlets that you use…Twitter, LinkedIn, Digg, and others. Also, don’t forget to email your house list and put it on your blog.  This idea can be implemented quickly.  It’s easy.  Most importantly, it works!
