Quick Tip of the Week: Track Your Brand Influence and Online Reputation in Twitter
By now you’re probably using a program to track and evaluate your social media strategy, such as Google Analytics (and if you’re not, you should be!). But there are also tools specific to certain social media sites, like Twitter.
For example, Tweetbeep will give you hourly updates whenever you or your company is mentioned, while Tweetstats will graph your Twitter use so you can judge how effective your tweets are. Both of these are useful tools if you’re on Twitter consistently and would like another way of measuring your Return on Influence.

Quick Tip of the Week: Make the Most of your Twitter Account
As anyone who participates in social media knows, Twitter has a great capacity to educate and influence a large amount of people on a daily basis. Businesses have definitely picked up on the effect Twitter can have on their bottom line, and, as an estate planning attorney, you should be tweeting regularly, reaching out to your target market.
There are some tools you can use to help maximize your Twitter use, and make sure you are following relevant people, and, more importantly, to make sure your tweets are reaching your relevant audience. Below is a list of a few you might want to check out:
- http://www.twellow.com – Industry/keyword search directory
- http://wefollow.com/ – Find new followers based on your inputted keyword
- http://justtweetit.com/ – Find other “Tweeters” with similar interests
- http://mrtweet.com/ – Get relevant followers by recommending them and discover people relevant to your current needs

Quick Tip of the Week: Organize a Local Tweetup!
A ‘Tweetup’ is an offline meeting of people who have met and organized on Twitter. This is a great way to find other Twitter users in your area, who share your common interests. Here’s an HR related tweetup I found in the San Diego area on http://twtvite.com/:
http://tweetup.meetup.com/ is another good site, because it draws users from the already popular meetup.com. These sites can be a great tool to take your networking strategies to the next level. You could organize a Tweetup with local financial advisors to establish a referral relationship, or hold a tweetup with local parent publications for marketing purposes, for example. The possibilities are endless!
Quick Tip of the Week: Use Nearbytweets to Connect with your Community
There’s a social media resource out there that is great for connecting with your local community: Nearbytweets! It’s sort of a little cousin to Twitter, and very easy to use. Just go to www.nearbytweets.com, and on the homepage, enter your location, a key word or phrase, and a radius, and you will find people near you who are discussing topics related to your market on Twitter!
As a test, I entered the phrase “estate planning” in a 200 mile radius around Los Angeles, California, and came up with several different people who were tweeting about estate planning in that area:

What better way is there for you to attract and connect with your local audience online? Test the site out using different keywords your target market might discuss online, such as, “probate law” or “Mom’s groups,” and see what you find!
Quick Tip of the Week: A Twitter Bio is a Must
You may remember back in the olden days of Twitter (like about 6 months ago) where everyone pretty much followed everyone else? Those days are long gone. You should know that people are becoming a lot more selective in who they add to their list. To increase your chance of getting relevant followers, you should create really great bio.
Here are some basics that every Twitter bio should have:
- Add your avatar, to create brand recognition.
- Provide a descriptive one line bio, that makes a really great first impression but also includes relevant keywords like “lawyer” and “attorney.” This can be tricky given the 160 character limit, but it can be done!
- Mention your location, to maximize your chances of those searching in your local area will find you – critical for estate planning attorneys!
- Include the URL link to your firm website and/or blog.
If you don’t have a really great bio, or worse, you don’t have one at all, head right over to Twitter and create one today. Done correctly, you should see an immediate increase in followers.
